BIBL 5423 - Biblical Interpretation and Modernity

This course is an introduction to and interaction with the more recent history of biblical scholarship. This course surveys the trends, developments and critical methodologies within the field of biblical studies. The effects of modern thought on the spiritual life and surrounding culture of western Christian communities are explored. Students learn to evaluate the assumptions / values of competing intellectual ideologies as they influence our understanding of biblical texts.
