Degree Requirements


In this program students engage in introductory studies for the purpose of transferring to an institution which provides the finishing studies in nursing or other health-related fields. This degree does not guarantee acceptance into such programs, and students should make every effort to conform their course selections here to specific program requirements of their intended transfer institutions. They need to work closely with the Northwest University faculty monitoring the option, with the Northwest University Registrar’s Office, and with the representatives of the institution to which they will transfer.

Aims

The aims of the Health Science Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree are:

  1. To expose the student to the traditional liberal arts within a Christian pedagogical approach to higher education.
  2. To provide the student a foundational understanding of science coursework to prepare him or her to enter a formal nursing program.

Educational Outcomes

Completion of the Health Science Associate in Arts degree requires the student to demonstrate competencies in:

  1. Science knowledge and reasoning skills applicable to nursing and related health science fields;
  2. Developing a Christian view of identity, vocation, and engagement with society along with Christian values of truth, beauty, goodness, and community.
  3. Identifying theological and biblical concepts.
  4. Recognizing essential tenets of Christian theology.
  5. Demonstrating written and verbal communication skills. 
  6. Understanding the impact of historical perspectives.
  7. Evaluating sources for reliability.
  8. Demonstrating scientific and technological literacy.
  9. Applying discipline appropriate problem-solving skills.
  10. Explaining principles of personal flourishing.
