Introduction

The Master of Arts in Applied Leadership Theory positions CFLS students to work at the intersection of theory and practice in the leadership arts. They earn this 36-hour degree in-progress as they work toward their Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership. As a concurrent Master’s degree, the MAALT gives students the opportunity to earn a specialized graduate degree in a field that represents the heart of the doctoral programs in Organizational Leadership.

Uniquely, the MAALT offers the advantage of exploring the relationship between theory and practice. This often-overlooked connection will prepare students to understand that this relationship contributes to both components and to develop leadership practice out of that connection.

Admissions

The CFLS grants the MA in Applied Leadership Theory only to students admitted into the Ed.D. or Ph.D. programs. The same criteria for admission as the doctoral degrees apply. 

Credit Transfer

Students in the MAALT can transfer up to 12 hours of graduate credits from eligible schools into their Ph.D. or Ed.D. programs using CFLS guidelines.

Program Outcomes

Graduates with an MA in Applied Leadership Theory will be able to:

1. Describe the historical and social contexts that influenced the development of major leadership theories.
2. Compare the central features of major leadership theories.
3. Critique the strengths and weaknesses of major leadership theories.
4. Evaluate the applicability of major leadership theories to a variety of organizational settings.
5. Formulate leadership practices that apply theory to a variety of organizational situations.
6. Articulate a Christian perspective on the relationship of leadership theory to leadership practice.
