BIBL 5163 - Discipleship in the New Testament 3 credits
One of the distinctive features of Jesus’ ministry is that he called others to follow him. This calling includes learning the teaching of Jesus, but more importantly it means learning Jesus himself and following his example. This course will explore the context, character, and challenge of discipleship as these topics are introduced in the Gospel accounts, which present Jesus’ instruction and example to his first followers, and then further developed in other writings of the New Testament. To place discipleship within a larger biblical framework, attention is also directed to the relevant antecedents of calling and prophetic vocation articulated in the Old Testament.
